Committees

Activity Committee

The activity committee is responsible for organising a number of activities for Dispuut members with the main goal to get to know each other. The activities range from ice skating to beer tasting. Also, an annual weekend is organised somewhere in the Netherlands. Sports activities are always on the programme. Usually, we set our sails for adventures on the high seas. Last year we went mountain biking, something completely different! You never know what the Activity Committee has in store for us!

Druppel Committee

The Druppel is a magazine written, edited and created by a committee of hardworking students from the Dispuut Water and Environment. The goal is to raise awareness and create interest in water & environment related stories and issues. Three to four editions are produced each year for our members, sponsors and department staff. Each issue has a theme which is explored through editorials, interviews, monthly columns and various other pieces of writing. If you are interested in contributing to the magazine don’t hesitate to contact the Dispuut. Please see the latest edition of the Druppel below. For older versions you can peruse the archive.

Fitterij Committee

One of the big events organized by the Dispuut Water and Environment is the Fitterij. The Fitterij is a pipe fitting competition annually held on a spring day in the middle of the campus of TU Delft. On this day teams of two battle against each other and try to construct a tap connection on the pipe as fast as possible whilst having the least amount of leakages. Besides that a competition called ‘kraantje drukken’ is held in which the pairs try to close a hole in a pressurized water pipe. The Fitterij is a day filling event, with besides the competitions a lunch and a barbeque and time to socialize with students, staff and companies. Similar competitions are known amongst drinking water companies, with even world championships. As the Dispuut liked the idea and wanted to introduce this also to the students, staff and other companies, it organized its first own Fitterij in 2012. It was immediately a success and is since then organized yearly.

IBET/EBET Committee

Once a year the Travel Committee of the Dispuut Water and Environment organises a study trip to very different destinations such as Ethiopia, Great Britain, Colombia or Morocco. The IBET and the EBET alternate every second year. IBET stands for ‘International Business and Educational Trip’. EBET stands for ‘European Business and Educational Trip’. The IBET is a generally longer trip or a trip to a destination further away that involves a higher self-contribution for the students. Once each two years the EBET is organised at a lower cost to make the trip accessible for more students. Usually, two staff members join the trip to enhance the exchange between the students and the staff members. With their expert knowledge they can round up the study-related part of the trip. The destination of this year’s IBET trip? Still a surprise!

PR Committee

The PR committee is , together with the commissioner of PR from the board, responsible for the contact with our 15 partners, companies active in the water managent or environmental engineering sector. Together with the partners they organize lunch lectures and company case days. They also help the other committees with sponsorships and securing enough money for the events.

Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee promotes the idea of sustainability in our association and department, with activities for members and collaboration with Faculty’s Managers. Have a look at our Green Guide for Delft and how you could reduce food waste, you find it under Media on this website.

Symposium Committee

The Dispuut hosts an annual symposium on the TU campus that focuses on important water and environmental issues. The event is organized by a dedicated committee of students and takes place in the third quarter of each academic year. Each event has a different theme and an assortment of internationally respected scientists, engineers and professionals are brought together to give a series of lectures and workshops that explore the topic from many different angles. Our main goal is to educate our students and the public at large through fostering discussion and debate on these globally important issues. The event is growing year by year and the latest edition had nearly 100 attendees. The day ends with an opportunity for students to network with the speakers, companies and each other through a speed dating session and a borrel.

Wasted - Sustainable Beer Brewing

The Dispuut is one of the first in the world to brew beer from recycled waste water. We brew a different edition of the ‘Wasted’ a couple times each year. Not only does the beer taste great but we are also promoting sustainability and closing the water chain.
