Deltares – Quantifying the effect of drought measures on intra-day flooding

Adaptation measures to drought and flood risk are often separately studied. Measures to decrease drought risk at landscape level in the Netherlands often include removing tube drainage and smaller ditches. However, the resulting increase in groundwater levels might affect flood patterns during extreme rain events. Hence, with this MSc-research, we would like to do a deep dive into the effects of drought measures on flooding using an online coupled groundwater-surface water model and detailed implementation of the proposed drought measures in both model components.
