Haskoning is involved in the development of an innovative technology (ViviMag®) to extract phosphorus in the form of vivianite from sewage sludge at wastewater treatment plants where chemical P-removal with iron is implemented. With this technology it is possible to obtain a P-recovery of 60% and via this route we talk about P-recycling instead of P-reuse. For marketing reasons it is important to do a fact-finding study on the real value of chemically bound phosphorus when using sludge on land. The following research questions can be formulated:
- What is the availability of ferric and ferrous phosphate for crop growth when using sewage sludge on land?
- What is the real meaning of phosphorus leachate experiments as indication for the fertilizing value of phosphorus in real practice?
- What are the real unique selling points of using sewage sludge on land; phosphorus, nitrogen, organic matter, micronutrients, …?
You will become a member of the R&D-team at Haskoning.
