Junior Adviseur / Onderzoeker Operationeel Waterbeheer

Have you recently obtained your master’s degree in civil engineering, earth sciences or a similar study with a focus on hydrology or hydrodynamics? Are you ready for the challenge of helping water managers to organize daily water management as optimally as possible? Then we are looking for you.

This is what you can expect as a Junior advisor/researcher operational water management: 

We are looking for a junior to join our team in the field of operational water management (rivers/coast/lakes). Your goal is to develop top knowledge in the field of early warning for flood decision support and integration of data and models into real-time information systems.

You will make frequent use of the Delft-FEWS software package developed by us. FEWS collects meteorological data, controls hydrological simulations and provides forecasts regarding the state of the water system. As a junior consultant/researcher, you will work on the configuration and expansion of systems for making hydrological forecasts. Your main tasks are:

  • You configure forecasting systems and work on improving the water-related forecasts we make.
  • You advise governments such as Rijkswaterstaat or a water board on the management, configuration and further development of a specific forecasting system for a river or coastal area;
  • You will work with a team of colleagues and a high degree of interaction with mainly national but also international customers. You visit customers to discuss issues with clients and work as a team on solutions.
  • You contribute to the development of new knowledge and work on innovative applications of this knowledge in real-time information and forecasting.
  • You think and write along in proposals and advice and like to help develop new knowledge; in particular for improving water management in the Netherlands and the models that are used for this.
